Information from New York State Board of Elections:

Voter Eligibility

In order to register to vote in New York State, you must:
• Be a US citizen
• Be 18 years of age or older by the day following the next general election to file the Voter Registration form (downloadable form below). Note: you must be 18 years old by the date of the general, primary or other election in which you want to vote.
• Live at your present address at least 30 days before an election.
• Not be in jail or on parole for a felony conviction.
• Not claim the right to vote elsewhere.

How to register

1. You can register in person at your county board of elections
or at any New York State Agency-Based voter registration center.
2. You can enter your name directly into our mailing list database.
3. You can call our 1-800-FOR-VOTE hotline to request a voter application.
4. You can download a PDF version of the New York State Voter Registration Form.

Print the form, complete and sign it, and mail it to your county board of elections.

5. Alternately, you can complete a PDF version of the New York State Voter Registration Form on-line by clicking on the link below, typing the necessary information and selecting the appropriate boxes. However, the file size of these forms are substantially larger than the above forms, so it may take quite a while for them to load on computers with slower Internet connections.

You can use this form to:
- Register to vote in New York State.  Note: You must register at least 25 days prior to an election to be eligible to vote in that election.
- Change your name and/or address, if there is a change since you last voted
- Enroll in a political party or change your enrollment. Note: all changes of enrollment go into effect once a year; they must be filed 25 days prior to the general election and will go into effect 7 days after the general election of that year.
